Australia: Queensland farmers say a State Government draft agriculture strategy ignores possible effects of climate change

Source(s): Courier-Mail

According to the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation climate model projections, the next decades will see decreased precipitation and changes in temperature and sea levels and suggest adaptation to the changing climate effects. However, as reported by Courier Mail, the Queeensland Farmers Federation (QFF) claims that the agriculture strategy drafted by the Queensland Goverment does not account for the need for agriculture to adapt to climate change.

"While there is still much uncertainty about the specific changes that will impact on Queensland agricultural regions, QFF believes that an agricultural strategy setting a path for growth over the next 30 years should consider all the factors likely to impact on production and productivity over this period," reads the farmers' letter to the authorities.
