Viet Nam: Gov’t urges finalization of Action Plan on Climate Change
VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng has urged the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) to quickly finalize the National Action Plan for Climate Change and submit it to the Government in February this year.
The Government chief made the request on Wednesday in Hà Nội while presiding over the first meeting of the National Committee on Climate Change (NCCC).
At local level, 15 out of 63 provinces and cities issued their action plan on climate change by the end of 2011, report shows.
The MONRE also needs to continue updating scenarios of climate change and sea level rise; verify projects on coping with climate change and sealevel rise, he said.
At the same time, PM Dũng asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment to continue collecting comments on and quickly finalize the Việt Nam’s Green Growth Strategy for the 2011-2020 period with vision to 2050.
PM Dũng also called for strengthening interational cooperation in a bid to diversify resources for climate change adaptation.
Việt Nam is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change, expert says.
The NCCC, founded on January 9, 2012, is responsible for consulting and assisting the Government and PM in instructing and supervising interdisciplinary cooperation and realization of the national strategy and national programs on climate change.
