The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the executive summary of an update of the Implementation Plan for the Global Observing System for Climate in Support of the UNFCCC (FCCC/SBSTA/2010/Misc.9).

The submission from the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) Secretariat outlines 138 recommended actions for the coming five years to ensure that countries have necessary observational information to understand, predict and manage responses to climate change. The plan includes a breakdown of costs for the recommended actions. It also calls for sustained observations of the Essential Climate Variables and for support for research, modeling, analysis and capacity building activities. The Plan will be considered by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) at its 33rd session, which will take place in Cancun, Mexico, from 30 November-4 December 2010.
