According to Andrew Tjaardstra, the Asia editor of Insurance Insight, small-medium enterprises in the Philippines tend not to have an insurance against natural disasters, in spite of the fact, that natural disasters cause considerable damage in the country year after year. BBC reports that global economic losses from natural disasters in the first half of 2013 was $85bn, and over 40% of that was due to flooding.
