The Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR) is delighted to invite you to join its first PEDRR cross-regional symposium on 15-16 September 2021.

This cross-regional PEDRR symposium aims to bring together members of the five networks to:

• Connect members of the five networks and learn about their work and institutions

• Provide a platform for exchange and learning on teaching, research in specific topic areas (see below) or regions and the science implications for the upcoming policy meetings such as those for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR)

• Present the key joint initiatives by PEDRR at the regional level (winter school) to discuss the development of new editions

• Jointly develop new Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives and outputs

Topics covered in the symposium:

• Teaching Eco-DRR and potentials for collaborating on EcoDRR research and scholarships

• Advances/Innovations in Eco-DRR (e.g. engineering standards, principles, indicators, green infrastructure, rewilding etc.) and their science-policy implications

• Eco-DRR and Health (e.g. COVID-19) to provide inputs for the next GPDRR

As such we are calling for abstracts (300 words max) on the above topics to find speakers for 15min presentations – deadline for the 23rd of June.

Virtual Posters

We are also calling for virtual posters of your work on Eco-DRR – deadline 1st of September 2021.
The posters (hosted on a MiroBoard during the symposium) will allow participants to view each other’s work and network (to the extent possible in a virtual context). Posters on research projects, policy initiatives, and student work on Eco-DRR are equally welcome. Please send to contact@pedrr.org

PEDRR Champion awards

The symposium will also hand out PEDRR awards. The PEDRR Champion awards are a certificate recognizing those individuals/projects that have contributed to upscaling Eco-DRR. The awards will be decided by the focal points of the PEDRR regional networks as well as by the PEDRR Chair and Co-chair. To be considered for these awards, a virtual poster showcasing your work needs to be submitted (see above). The winners will be featured on our website and in our newsletter.
