Pacific: Call for access to climate finance

Pacific developing member countries of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) continue to deal with the effects of recurrent disasters, some of which have been exacerbated by climate change, reports Fiji Times. ADB president Takehiko Nakao said one of their focus areas for the Pacific was managing risk from natural disasters, climate change and global economic shocks.

And according to Vanuatu's governor at the Asian Development Bank's 48th annual board of governors meeting, Maki Simelum, those catastrophic events impeded economic progress towards sustainable economic development. To strengthen resilience to natural disasters, the ADB has been assisting in climate and disaster-proofing infrastructure, and in developing disaster management capacity, the ABD's president Mr Nakaow was quoted as saying.
