International day for disaster reduction: Children and young people as partners for DRR (with a little help from older people!)
In his post for HelpAge, Godfred Paul writes about his visit to flooded areas in Metro Manila and Camirines Norte after typhoon Ketsana and reflects about the theme of children and young people being partners in disaster risk reduction. He states that "the intergenerational aspect is an important part of disaster risk reduction as it maximises the strong bond between grandparents and grandchildren."
"On the occasion of the International Day of Disaster Reduction, the message from the field is that intergenerational approaches and inclusive programmes make communities safer, stronger and more resilient," he continues.
