China to check all schools for quake resistance

'Local governments must carry out a thorough quality check on the public facilities from kindergartens to universities' says a note from the Ministry of Education.

School collapses caused the death of around 9,000 children, often in places where nearby buildings stood firm. Safety checks will concentrate on school buildings and dorms as well as on other public facilities.
