Call for case studies on Nature-based Solutions in the Indian Himalayan region
The Indian Himalayan Region (IHR), home to fragile ecosystems and diverse communities, is on the frontline of climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. Recognising the critical need to amplify effective nature-based responses to these challenges, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), in partnership with the India Climate Collaborative (ICC), has launched a Call for Case Studies on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) under the Himalaya for the Future (HFF) initiative.
This initiative seeks to identify, assess, and document innovative NbS interventions from across the IHR that effectively integrate biodiversity conservation with community resilience and human well-being. Selected case studies will be evaluated using the globally recognised IUCN Global Standard on Nature-based Solutions, and the top submissions will be featured in a publication to be shared with diverse stakeholders.
Who can apply?
We invite NGOs, community-based organisations, academic institutions, and local institutions working in the 13 Himalayan states and UTs-namely Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, and select districts of Assam and West Bengal-to share their success stories.
What are we looking for?
Submissions should highlight NbS interventions that demonstrate:
- Multiple co-benefits such as biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, sustainable livelihoods, or water security.
- Innovation and scalability, with potential for replication across similar mountain contexts.
- Inclusive governance, showcasing active participation by communities, women, youth, and multiple stakeholders.
- Evidence of impact, including environmental, social, and economic outcomes.
Eligible initiatives must be ongoing or recently completed (2020-2024), and align with at least one of the following thematic areas:
- Climate change mitigation and adaptation
- Disaster risk reduction
- Economic and social development
- Human health
- Food security
- Water Security
- Environmental degradation and biodiversity loss
Submission & recognition
All submissions must include a completed case study template. Please refer to the guidelines in the link before submitting your case study. The deadline for submission is 05 August 2025.
Top case studies will be recognised in IUCN publications and events. Select submissions with strong potential for upscaling will also be supported for partnership development.
