BeSafeNet - Online competition

Source(s): European and Mediterranean Major Hazards Agreement

On the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, The European and Mediterranean Major Hazards Agreement of the Council of Europe (EUR-OPA) recalls the importance of ensuring that no one is left behind in the prevention and preparedness to disasters, in particular the vulnerable groups, such as; children, migrants, people with disabilities.

EUR-OPA supports in particular the BeSafeNet project implemented by the Cyprus Civil Defence aiming at sharing reliable information on the nature, causes and consequences of natural and technological disasters through the internet and promoting a global risk culture among populations, in particular young people.

In this context, an International online competition between schools will take place on the theme “Better knowledge against disasters”, and is open to secondary schools in the 26 member States of the Agreement. Registrationto participate in the competition is already open! This will give students a chance to increase their knowledge on natural and technological hazards that they could face inside or outside the school. The students will learn the adequate behaviour in risk situations and how to reduce as much as possible the potential impact of disasters
