In his opinion for the Jakarta Globe, Michael Richardson links hurricane Sandy to two other storms that swept through Asia: Typhoon Son-tinh that smashed into the northern Philippines, Vietnam and southern China, and a cyclone that churned across the Bay of Bengal, veering away from Sri Lanka at the last minute before striking southeast India.
