Africa: EU mobilises €125m for countries affected by ‘El Niño’

Zimbabwe is among the seven southern African countries which will share €12 million for mitigation programmes against the effects of El Niño extreme weather phenomenon, reports Newsday. The European Union announced this week that it will contribute €125m to finance emergency actions in countries affected by El Niño in Africa and the Caribbean.

The regional bloc said of the €125m, €12m will go towards assisting the 7,8 million people in Angola, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Madagascar and Zimbabwe expected to be affected by the phenomenon.
