Starting this year, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will accelerate its climate adaptation efforts, reports Haruhiko Kuroda, the president of ADB, in The Japan Times. According to recent estimates, it is suggested that effective adaptation will require around $40 billion per year from 2010 to 2050 to neutralize the impacts of climate change on the Asia and Pacific region's development. However, this investment is seen as necessary. Kuroda declares that addressing key adaptation challenges — including managing the risks of climate-related disasters — is integral to the region's economic development.
