About
The National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) Japan will be organizing a session (ID: P-02, Public Sessions) on Urban DRR and Resilience at the Tsukuba Conference 2025 on October 2, 2025.
This session will discuss multidisciplinary approaches to urban disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) in emerging megacities in the rapidly developing Asia-Pacific region. Researchers will provide in-depth analyses of urban vulnerabilities to hazards (e.g., earthquakes and floods), presenting the latest research findings and data-driven countermeasures. Government and international agencies will share strategic frameworks, successful policies, and governance models for integrating DRRM into urban planning. Business stakeholders will highlight innovative solutions, practical applications, and best practices for enhancing disaster preparedness through private sector technologies and resources. The session will also facilitate in-depth discussions and expert exchanges on the heightened vulnerabilities to compound, cascading, and systemic hazards that are specific to megacities, where the concentration of people and infrastructure amplifies risks. Participants will gain valuable insights from case studies and practical strategies for enhancing urban sustainability and resilience in the context of megacities in the region.
