Background

The Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) brings policymakers, industry leaders, experts, and practitioners together to address challenges, showcase technologies, discover opportunities, and celebrate achievements in the water world. SIWW flagship programs include an annual Water Leaders Summit, Water Convention, Water Expo, Business Forums, and the presentation of the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize, an international award that recognizes outstanding contributions in solving water issues.

ADB supported the inaugural SIWW in 2008 to stimulate water investments, reforms, capacity development, and knowledge sharing under its Water Financing Program. At the SIWW 2009, ADB committed to a strategic partnership with SIWW from 2010-2012. That year, ADB also co-organized the Southeast Asia Business Forum and contributed to the session on "Water Policy Dialogue: Water Governance," organized by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. ADB provided continued support to SIWW 2010 and introduced its new financing mechanisms to suit the needs of various clients, such as the multitranche financing facility, and subsovereign and nonsovereign lending.

SIWW 2011's theme, "Sustainable Water Solutions for a Changing Urban Environment", reflects a broader focus beyond urban water solutions and other issues that affect the urban environment, such as climate change and the management of watersheds and river basins. ADB is contributing to sessions related to Governance and Finance, including sessions on public-private partnerships, water as a business enterprise, and credible water regulation.
