Background

Global climate change is expected to have a strong impact on the environment on local, regional and global scales. Its impact can be particularly important at regions which are additionally subject to other changes, i.e. population growth, land use change, and change in industrial and hydropower sectors. As a result, the scientific community has been focusing on activities and initiatives, i.e. climate scenarios, impact assessments, adaptation and mitigation strategies, to reduce system’s vulnerability to climate change and improve decision making.

The CCISA2013 workshop aims to strengthen the understanding of climate change impacts and link scientific insights to policies for promoting sustainability. The workshop will look into the scientific, technical and social challenges as well as implications of climate change on sustainable development.

Program

Special Session on “Adaptation and mitigation options for tackling the impacts of climate change on water resources in the Luni River Basin”

The International Workshop on Climate Change Impacts and Societal Adaptation will bring together engineers, scientists, students, managers and other professionals from the climate impacts community. The success of this workshop reflects the critical environmental topics that are discussed as well as the quality of the presented papers. All the papers that are selected for either oral or poster presentation will undergo a review process.

The CCISA 2013 program will accommodate sessions and workshops on climate change impacts and adaptation.

Themes

  • Climate variability and change
  • Climate change impact assessment
  • Uncertainty analysis
  • Adaptation under climatic change

On Day 1, scientists and policy-makers will discuss various aspects of climate change impacts on water-related hazards in the Luni area. The objective is to improve the process understanding of the system and identify/assess appropriate mitigation and adaptation options to alleviate poverty.
