Basketball for International Day for Disaster Reduction

Persons living with disabilities are among the most excluded in society, and their plight is magnified when a disaster strikes. Not only are they less likely to receive the aid they need during a humanitarian crisis, they are also less likely to recover in the long-term. More often than not, their unique contribution to helping communities prepare for and respond to disasters is also often overlooked.

This year in Geneva, UNISDR will be doing something different. Partnering with local organizations and the City of Geneva, UNISDR will be observing the International Day for Disaster Reduction by organizing a friendly basketball event for the public. A professional team of persons living with a disability, the Aigles de Meyrin, will also be giving a demonstration. Children are welcome to participate.
