15th Equitable Education Alliance Webinar: 'Resilient Education in Times of Emergency'
UNESCO Bangkok, Thailand
- English
Every emergency threatens the right to education, testing the resilience and preparedness of education systems. Emergency situations include natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis and floods, as well as man-made conflicts and public health-related crises such as infectious disease outbreaks. The Asia-Pacific region is the most impacted by natural disasters and climate change in the world (UNESCO 2023). In 2024, the region recorded 24 million disaster-induced displacements (IOM, 2025). The scale of conflict induced displacement in Asia and the Pacific has reached record highs at 18 million (ibid). These crises disrupt learning through school closures, limited flexible learning modalities, and risks to health, safety, and well-being, disproportionately affecting women and girls.
In this context, safeguarding the continuity and quality of education through well-supported teachers, adaptable learning modalities, and resilient systems becomes essential to protect learning outcomes and provide stability, protection, and hope for affected children and youth.
That’s why the 15th Equitable Education Alliance (EEA) Webinar, co-hosted by UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok and Office for UN Coordination for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCO Bangkok) and Thailand’s Equitable Education Fund (EEF) will spotlight practical strategies to sustain learning continuity, gender-responsive quality education, and safe learning environments, using flexible learning modalities integrating gender, mental health and psychological support to strengthen resilient education systems during and beyond crises.
The webinar will bring together government officials, researchers, and education experts from across the region to explore how education systems can be prepared, resilient, and responsive in times of crisis.
Speakers will share insights from promising practices that promote learning continuity, access to gender-responsive quality education, and safe, inclusive flexible learning environments in emergency contexts. These include comprehensive school safety framework providing ‘all-hazards, all-risks’ approach providing safe, equitable, and continuous access to a quality education for all.
