Climate Change is a strategic priority for United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The UNEP Risoe Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development supports UNEP in the implementation of its climate strategy with special focus on carbon finance, technology transfer and climate resilient development. The Centre is a leading international research and advisory centre on energy, climate and sustainable development; we work in close partnership with UNEP and collaborate with a large number international and especially developing country institutions.
Activities at the Centre are rapidly expanding and we are therefore looking for a Head of Program for Climate Strategies and Resilient Development. The program focuses on support to national adaptation activities in developing countries, including capacity building and development of analytical tools and guidelines.
Job description
The new Head will be expected to manage and expand a small team of senior staff and PhD students (currently 9 people) in close collaboration with the UNEP Adaptation program. The incumbent will also participate in the Centre’s international projects and analytical programmes. He/She will join an international team in an interdisciplinary work environment and are expected to contribute to the strategic development of the programme in accordance with UNEP’s Climate Change Strategy.
Qualification
-Degree in economics, engineering, planning, natural science or other relevant discipline at Ph.D. or equivalent level.
-At least 10 years work experience related to climate change impacts and adaptation with a focus on development integration and to be able to document excellent results.
-Motivate a team by a good example and value respectful communication and dialogue as an efficient tool to obtain the best results. -Experience with project management is necessary and preferably also staff management experience.
-The working language at the Centre is English. Proficiency in French or Spanish will be an asset.
