The Civil Defence/Emergency Management provides planning, training, community awareness and operational support so that the wider community is prepared for, able to respond to and recover from a major disaster or incident. With a strong ability to work independently, you'll have a sound knowledge of logistics, welfare and communications, as well as experience in developing and supporting operational procedures and plans. Your excellent facilitation skills, and ability to establish strong linkages with key stakeholders and community groups will be key to your success.
Position overview:
The Emergency Management Officer is accountable for the provision of operational capability and capacity in emergency management. This includes the functions of Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery for the Waikato Valley Emergency Operations Area’s five councils. The councils are Hamilton City Council, Waikato District Council, Waipa District Council, Otorohanga District Council and Waitomo District Council. This position is responsible for ensuring that the Council’s obligations under the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002 are met.
Education and qualification:
- 6th Form Certificate.
- Full, clean and current drivers licence.
- Diploma in Emergency Management (or working towards).
- Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi CIMS 2 and 4.
- Knowledge & experience Successful relationship management background.
- Experience in operational planning.
- Project Management experience.
- Ability to effectively train volunteers staff.
- Knowledge of legislation applicable to civil defence and emergency management.
- Knowledge of the emergency services & health prime functions.
