Conservation International (CI) is requesting three (3) Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to work as Community Specialists. Due to recent political unrest, Madagascar’s natural resources have been threatened by illegal logging and hunting, spurred primarily by foreign interests. PCRVs will work hand-in-hand with CI’s field teams to support communities to establish robust local governance systems that enable rural people to overcome these outside interests and conserve their resources and way of life.
Qualifications
Mandatory Qualifications include the ability to verbally communicate in Malagasy and knowledge of local natural resource management issues, community-based natural resources management, and protected area management.
Desired Qualifications include the ability to communicate in French, experience in rural Madagascar (preferred), experience in providing support to community-level associations for natural resource management, basic organizational management, and/or accounting/budgeting and knowledge of community-level governance structures and processes.
