“Don’t wait for rain” episode

Aims

Intended Outcomes

To:

• Increase understanding about the importance of flood early warning systems;
• Provide detailed information about how to construct one for their own communities;
• Motivate communities to work together to build their own and to build the self- and collective- efficacy required to do so;
• Encourage communities to have a preparedness plan in the event of flooding, including how to evacuate.

Targeting: General audiences in Cambodia at-risk from extreme weather

• Media: A TV reality programme - The episode brought regular community members together to reflect on how flooding impacts their lives and what they can do about it. Guided by a local expert, they meet with a member of the local organisation that can help them set up their own flood early warning system and set to work creating it themselves. The community also runs a practice evacuation drill, learning what they should do at each stage of the early warning system.
