Ministry of Education and MDMC strengthen school preparedness through training of disaster safe and psychosocial education units in schools
SUMENEP — The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) in collaboration with Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC), held a Disaster Safety Education Unit (SPAB) and Psychosocial Support Training. This strategic activity aims to strengthen the capacity of schools in Sumenep in disaster mitigation and ensure psychological protection and recovery for students.
This training was attended by 54 educators and educational personnel from various schools in Sumenep. The program is designed intensively to equip educational units to be able to recognize risks, compile preparedness plans, and respond to emergency conditions effectively, including providing post-disaster psychosocial support.
The Chief Executive of BPBD Sumenep, Ahmad Laili Maulili, emphasized that cross-sectoral collaboration is the key to the success of the disaster-safe education program.
"This activity is proof that disaster mitigation efforts must be carried out together. Through the support of the Ministry of Education and MDMC, we hope that schools in Sumenep will be more ready, both from technical and psychosocial aspects," said Ahmad Laili Maulili.
The main materials delivered in the training include:
- Risk and vulnerability mapping in the school environment
- Preparation of SOP, contingency plan, and school evacuation route
- Emergency response simulation and school disaster management
- Early and advanced psychosocial support for students, teachers, and educational personnel
- Strengthening the coordination mechanism between institutions in dealing with school disasters
Ahmad Laili Maulili also specifically emphasized the importance of increasing psychosocial capacity as the foundation for student recovery.
"Children are the most vulnerable group to psychological impact. With a psychosocial approach, we ensure that their trauma recovery is faster, more accurate, and humane." - Ahmad Laili Maulili, Chief Executive of BPBD Sumenep
Through this joint initiative, BPBD Sumenep, Ministry of Education, and MDMC hope to create a sustainable culture of preparedness in the school environment.
"We are committed to expanding this program so that all schools in Sumenep have adequate preparedness, making schools not only a place to study, but also a safe zone," he concluded.
