WMO Bulletin Vol. 74 (2) - 2025

This bulletin marks the 75th anniversary of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and focuses on how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming weather prediction, climate services and early warning systems. It highlights WMO’s role in turning science into action to save lives, strengthen resilience and achieve the goal of Early Warnings for All by 2027. The issue explores how AI can deliver faster, more reliable and more accessible forecasts, while emphasizing the importance of trust, transparency and global collaboration. It includes examples such as the ANDeL Project in West Africa, which advances early warnings using deep learning, and China’s MAZU Initiative, which integrates governance, technology and social mobilization in disaster preparedness.

Other articles examine the role of governance and policy in ensuring responsible AI use, the growing importance of the Common Alerting Protocol and Cell Broadcast technology in reaching people at risk, and Kenya’s commitment to Early Warnings for All in Africa.
