Anticipatory action in 2024: A global overview
This is the third in a series of annual reports documenting the worldwide status and scale of anticipatory action. The report summarizes the data submitted by partners and other organizations implementing anticipatory action. The number of activations in 2024 increased compared to 2023, when there were 98 activations, and 2022 (47). The amount of financing decreased by 87.3 million US dollars (the amount in 2023 was 198 million US dollars) but was more than twice the 53.8 million US dollars released in 2022.
The report provides the following as actions for way forward in anticipatory action:
- Increase the funding available for anticipatory action – and make it easier to access;
- Continue to build the evidence of how anticipatory action helps people;
- Nurture the shift towards national-level institutionalization;
- Continue to scale up anticipatory action to more countries, more regions and more hazards.
