Basic understanding and promotion of Community-Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) concept among school going children is one critical gap which CORDAID intends to pursue and build on.

The use of simplified materials and pictorial is one strategy to create risk awareness and stimulate necessary actions. A second strategy is to have pupils at the centre of intervention where they engage in an activity to understand the relevance of hazard mitigation/prevention measures. The same can be linked to an environmental/4K Clubs in schools and use interclass/school competition events carried out on DRR day. During such day relevant messages can be passed to larger community audiences to maximize impact. Integrating this strategy to the school management and community based organization will ensure continuity and potential for other stakeholders to come on board.

CORDAID intends to undertake a pilot adopt a tree project in school as partner to its Linking and Learning Agenda. This concept has been shared with the facilitation (CIFA), a local primary school (ODDA) and a local Community based organization, ISID that have been identified for implementation of this small project.
