The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, DM Jayaratne, aimed for the National Safety Commemoration Day to raise awareness among the population of the impacts that natural disasters can have, as per Daily News.

"If people work against nature’s theory, the nature, in return, will create more natural disasters which would end with unbearable sufferings. That’s why people of some countries agitate over latest technologies being adopted, challenging the universal theory of nature," Jayaratne said.

"Though we cannot prevent natural disasters, we can minimize the damages through public awareness on disaster. Many died in the tsunami due to ignorance on natural disasters," he added.
