Turkey: AFAD launches emergency database for people with disabilities
Z-EVET, a project launched by AFAD’s local office in Kütahya, will allow the authorities to store information about the needs and permanent addresses of disabled individuals in the area to be used in cases of emergency.
Kütahya – The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority’s Kütahya office launched Z-EVET, a project seeking to collect personal information about disabled individuals to meet their special needs in cases of emergency. The initiative aims to expedite the authorities’ response to disasters and emergencies by ensuring that individuals with disabilities can be reached with greater ease.
Using educational materials customized for people with mental, auditory, orthopedic and visual disabilities, AFAD Kütahya provided basic disaster preparedness training to 445 individuals.
Information on Special Needs to Expedite Disaster Response
As part of Project Z-EVET, the authorities provide a training kit designed for disabled individuals’ family members. Moving forward, the database will be updated on a regular basis to identify changes in individuals’ needs and permanent address. In case of emergency, AFAD first responders will be able to pinpoint each disabled person within the affected area to reach them more quickly. AFAD Kütahya staff will also train family members of people with advanced disabilities.
