An assessment of the response to the 2008-2009 drought in Kenya
A report to the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Kenya:
This report reviews the effectiveness of interventions to reduce the effects of the 2008-2009 drought on the livestock production systems that sustain livestock owning communities in the drylands of Kenya, suggests a number of improvements to the currently employed drought management system, and reviews the need to develop climate change adaptation strategies in addition to the current drought management policies. It also includes a review of the timeliness and appropriateness of the early warning information disseminated during the drought to government and non governmental agencies. Two chapters with discussion and recommendations and lessons learned complete the report.
