This paper assesses tropical storms or hurricanes as potentially important and additional complicating factors that could exacerbate the management of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico as the North Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on June 1. It addresses the possible interactions between oil at sea and hurricanes, as well as indications of what this might mean to wildlife, ecosystems, business, and insurance interests.
