This is a revised earthquake hazard map of the Republic of Turkey. The previous earthquake zoning map of Turkey was published in 1996 and due to the recent developments in seismological monitoring, active fault databases, strong motion attenuations, the Republic of Turkey Disaster and Emergency Management Authority undertook a participatory approach to revising the existing map within the framework of the National Earthquake Research Fund of Turkey.
This map is a product of multi-stakeholder collaboration of different research groups including public authorities and universities. With the new hazard map researchers will be able to query the hazard information (earthquake hazard maps in terms of peak ground acceleration, peak ground velocity, 5%-damped pseudo-spectral accelerations at 0.2 sec and 1.0 sec periods for return periods of 43, 72, 475 and 2475 years (68%, 50%, 10%, 2% probability of exceedance in 50 years, respectively) by using a GIS based web application.
