Rwanda - Nature based flood adaptation to increase community resilience in the western part of Rwanda
This assessment report assessed environmental and social risks associated with the proposed nature-based flood adaptation project in Western Rwanda. Vigorous stakeholder engagement informed the assessment, which analyzed impacts to devise mitigation measures.
In conclusion, the implementation of the project entitled Nature-Based Flood Adaptation to Increase Community Resilience in the Western Part of Rwanda is expected to yield more positive than negative impacts from both environmental and social perspectives. The project is therefore considered worthwhile, provided that appropriate enhancement and mitigation measures are put in place. Anticipated benefits include the creation of employment opportunities, a reduction in soil erosion and flooding, and decreased sedimentation and siltation in rivers.
