This brief report underlines some key challenges on ensuring better implementation of sustainable development and making development more equitable and more efficient. It intends to bring new perspectives and real needs to the global debate on sustainable development, such as the management and reduction of various traditional and emerging risks in society and the role of ecosystems in managing and reducing risks.
Overall, the report presents the conclusions of an expert meeting aimed at discussing the strategic inputs into the work of the UN Secretary-General's High Level Panel on Global Sustainability (GSP) whose mandate is to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality, make growth inclusive, production and consumption more sustainable while combating climate change and respecting the range of other planetary boundaries. It also aims to contribute to various inter-governmental processes, including Rio 2012 and the Conferences of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
