USA: California state action plan to build community resilience
Actions under the Plan are organized across four strategic tracks: building public awareness and notification systems; strengthening community services and response; increasing the resilience of the built environment; and utilizing nature-based solutions. Together, these tracks encompass both established and recommended state actions to address extreme heat, with a commitment to continued scoping and refinement by the Administration. Near-term priorities include implementing a statewide public health monitoring system to detect heat-related illness early and track trends; accelerating protection for communities most affected by extreme heat through measures such as cooling schools and homes, supporting community resilience centers, and expanding nature-based solutions; strengthening protections for vulnerable populations through codes, standards, and regulations; expanding economic opportunity and developing a climate-smart workforce capable of operating under extreme heat conditions; increasing public awareness to reduce heat-related risks; and protecting natural and working lands, ecosystems, and biodiversity from the impacts of extreme heat.
