Paris climate action plan 2024-2030
The Paris Climate Action Plan 2024 2030 places extreme heat adaptation at the center of the city's climate strategy, responding to projections that Paris could reach 50°C in the coming decades. The plan prioritizes protecting residents, especially vulnerable populations, by massively expanding urban greening, creating cool islands in every neighborhood, increasing permeable surfaces, and redesigning public spaces with nature based, low tech cooling solutions such as shade structures, white roofs, shutters, and water features. It accelerates the renovation of homes, schools, and public buildings to improve thermal comfort, while limiting the expansion of air conditioning in favor of energy efficient and passive cooling measures. Paris will also strengthen crisis preparedness for heat waves, including dedicated support for older adults, infants, pregnant people, and unhoused residents, and will explore shelters for the general population during heat domes.
