Australia: The National Adaptation Plan
This National Adaptation Plan is a step change in the Australian Government’s response to climate change. It is a framework for adapting to the physical climate risks that are nationally significant. The National Adaptation Plan outlines the vision and objectives for a well-adapted Australia.
It articulates how the Australian Government can enable effective adaptation through leadership and governance. Governance influences climate change risks by shaping how we collectively respond. It sets out principles to prioritise Australian Government action. Priority action will be:
- targeted – focused on nationally significant risks and risks affecting groups that are disproportionately vulnerable to the impacts of climate change
- evidence-based – benefits outweigh the costs and success can be measured
- collaborative – place-based and inclusive.
