Other worlds are possible: human progress in an age of climate change
This report calls upon governments and financial institutions to take action and new approaches to development, asserting that climate change is a wake-up call to ensure that risk assessments, emergency preparedness and disaster risk reduction are part of longer-term planning, to increase their scale and improve the quality of such efforts. It aims to make them move to encourage and replicate new approaches that take account of our changed economic and environmental circumstances.
The report builds on the previous UK Working Group on Climate Change and Development reports such as "Up in smoke?" and argues that our economies, communities and livelihoods already enable us to effectively fight climate change. On the basis of a wide range of examples drawn from the practical experience of the members of the Working Group on Climate Change and Development, it proposes some solutions to organise human affairs to address: (i) climate change mitigation; (ii) climate change adaptation; (iii) new model for human progress and development encompassing life-support systems upon which we depend.
