A methodology for assessing wildfire hazard in Sweden – The first step towards a multi-hazard assessment method
The paper provides an overview of the most common challenges associated with the development of multi-hazard assessment tools and methods to address challenges, and the presentation of an overarching multi-hazard methodology developed for Sweden. The methodology is modular, meaning that it is the combination of single hazards. The first development of the model presented here focusses on the wildfire module due to the prevalence of data.
This paper concludes that multi-hazard assessment frameworks are needed by the Fire and Rescue Services (FRS) to facilitate planning and training for such natural hazards. Such methods must be simple and useful to be applied by the FRS, but also provide information that can incorporate a more detailed analysis of both geographical and temporal needs than the traditional experiential approach adopted by the FRS.
