Linking environmental management to disaster risk reduction

Asian disaster management news, July-December 2009, vol.15, special issue:

This issue focuses on the linkage between environmental sustainability and disaster risk reduction with eight thematic articles. It raises the issue of environmental degradation affecting natural processes, altering humanity’s resource base, increasing vulnerability, exacerbating the impact of natural hazards, lessening overall resilience and challenging traditional coping strategies. It addresses the clear need to work further and together with partners in closing this gap between environmental management, disaster risk reduction and development, and intends to share views and experiences on the subject and how to link the theory to practice.
