Lights out: The risks of climate and natural disaster related disruption to the electric grid
Natural disasters pose grave threats to electric grids and their ability to deliver reliable electricity to communities. Climate change, expanding populations, and insufficiently diversified sources make our energy future more unpredictable.
This report explores how extreme weather and other natural catastrophes are evolving in the U.S. Pacific Northwest and examines their implications for the reliability of the electric system and potential economic disruption. It considers the risk reduction and resilience strategies currently in place and asesses the financing gaps in the face of anticipated climate and seismic risks in the region.
