Informal settlements in risk areas: a case study in João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil

This paper deals with the characterization of informal settlements in the city of João Pessoa, located in the state of Paraíba in the North-Eastern region of Brazil, which are exposed to multiple risk situations. It provides information for decision-makers who are to grant subsidies for urban interventions and management plans that seek the reduction of risks and have as their focus synergistic actions towards the preservation of life.
