Empowering communities: strengthening disaster preparedness in Rajah Buayan
This publication reports on a grassroots program launched to reactivate Barangay disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) Committees across five villages in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur, Philippines. With support from Islamic Relief Philippines, community leaders were trained under Republic Act No. 10121.
Through this initiative, communities formalized disaster committees, strengthened local response systems, and addressed compounding risks from floods, droughts, and conflict. Vulnerable groups, especially children and farmers, benefited from improved preparedness. The work is part of the REAP-UP Project, backed by Islamic Relief USA.
