Readying health facilities for climate-driven emergencies
This report examines how strengthening health facilities can enhance disaster risk reduction in the context of climate-driven emergencies, with a focus on safeguarding women’s health. It highlights why resilient health systems are critical in countries facing frequent climate hazards, where disruptions to services exacerbate existing gender inequalities and health risks.
Key findings show that many health facilities remain highly vulnerable to climate shocks due to weak infrastructure, limited supplies and the absence of contingency plans. The programme demonstrates that integrating emergency preparedness into routine health planning, strengthening referral systems, and institutionalizing coordination with government disaster management structures significantly improve service continuity.
