Pathways to climate-smart agriculture in Uzbekistan

This report examines the opportunities, challenges, and policy priorities for advancing Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) in Uzbekistan. The study assesses the current state of CSA adoption through field research and stakeholder consultations, identifying major barriers such as limited access to finance, knowledge gaps, weak extension services, and land tenure constraints.

 Using scenario-based analysis, the report demonstrates that wider adoption of climate-smart practices could improve water-use efficiency, increase agricultural productivity, enhance resilience to climate shocks, and generate economic and employment benefits. The findings highlight the importance of strengthening institutional support, improving access to technology and credit, investing in sustainable infrastructure, and modernizing agricultural research and advisory services. The report concludes with policy recommendations aimed at scaling up CSA implementation, promoting sustainable resource management, and supporting farmers in adapting to a changing climate. By creating an enabling environment for innovation and investment, Uzbekistan can build a more resilient, productive, and environmentally sustainable agricultural sector.
