No Escape II – The way forward
This report shows that an evidence-based, whole-of-society approach that allows all to participate and leaves no one behind is both possible and essential. By aligning climate, humanitarian, and development action, and – critically – ensuring accessible and inclusive finance, we can help frontline communities withstand today’s shocks and share in a resilient future. Here, the engagement of the private sector is also vital – from the start, and into the future – bridging innovation, investment and inclusive solutions for resilience and adaptation.
Key messages of this report, include:
- Tens of millions of people worldwide continue to be forced to flee their homes and seek safety from conflict and violence;
- Climate-related hazards do not occur in isolation. They aggravate multiple causes of forced displacement both within and across borders;
- These displacements often occur in fragile and conflict-affected settings;
- Climate change is compounding and multiplying the challenges faced by those who have already been displaced, as well as their hosts, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected settings;
- Durable solutions to displacement are becoming harder to achieve. Climate impacts are adding to the challenges that displaced people or returnees face in securing safe places to settle and call home, and therefore increase the risk of protracted, recurrent and onward displacement.
