Leading the way to resilient food systems: a participatory and comprehensive approach from resilience assessment to action
This guide presents a practical and participatory methodology to help decision-makers, institutions, and communities to better understand their local food systems and the risks they face. Through a rapid food system resilience assessment process grounded in stakeholder dialogue, it is possible to identify and prioritise actions that enhance resilience-creating important dividends of resilience: greater social cohesion, environmental sustainability, economic stability, protection of livelihood, and food security and nutritional wellbeing.
Piloted in three municipalities with high exposure to both natural and technological hazards-Barcarena in Brazil, Cobija in Bolivia, and Puerto Nariño in Colombia-, this methodology can be effectively used in diverse local contexts, offering a replicable approach with broad applicability. It connects on-the-ground realities with systemic solutions and underscores the value of inclusive, evidence-based planning as a foundation for transformative change.
