Adaptation of forests to climate change
This study is part of a World Bank effort intended to help decision makers in developing countries to better understand and assess the risks posed by climate change and to better design sector strategies to adapt to climate change; as well as to develop a 'global' estimate of adaptation costs to inform on the international community’s efforts, and to provide new and additional resources to help the most vulnerable developing countries meet adaptation costs.
The approach of this forestry study is to draw from the considerable existing literature to provide perspective, as well as estimates and projections of the impacts of climate change on forests and forestry in various regions and countries. Based on the assessment of these projections, it suggests adaptation measures to mitigate damages likely to be incurred and identify adaptations that might be made. It also makes preliminary cost estimates.
