ACP compendium of risk knowledge
The ACP Risk Compendium was designed to raise the awareness and understanding of disaster risk across its three facets: hazards, vulnerability and capacity. It aims to remind decision-makers of the risk of natural hazards faced by the regions, sub-regions and countries; to create a culture of DRR advocacy; and to achieve further and enduring steps towards the protection of life and livelihoods, building resilience into political economies. The Compendium compiles cutting-edge science, indices and maps on risk that affects ACP regions and, therefore, their development prospects.
Disaster risk reduction (DRR) must be seen as essential to policy development planning and decisionmaking. The Compendium is expected to serve to highlight harmonised approaches, build common understanding of disaster risk management (DRM), and gather political support, dialogue and engagement (communication, awareness raising and advocacy purposes) across ACP regions.
The ACP Risk Compendium was written for a wide audience − especially those not intimately familiar with risk management and DRR jargon. It was especially prepared for a decision - making audience – one that may not have the time to absorb excessive technical detail but that is in a position to make DRR a priority in ACP communities, countries or regions, and may need compelling and user-friendly evidence at their fingertips to help them do so.
