UChicago, NCAR research suggests world will see ‘record-breaking’ winds
Institute led dismantling and reconstruction of three monumental gates in danger of collapse
UChicago research offers first concrete explanation for difference, and show it is getting even stormier over time
A new study has uncovered the sequence of events that precipitated the disaster, providing information that could further our understanding of heat formation on the North American continent.
In Chicago, urban flooding is especially problematic in lower-income and immigrant areas, where residents may hesitate to call on the city for help when basements and streets flood.
The same clean air policies that can reduce fossil fuel emissions and help reign in climate change can also add up to 5 years onto people’s lives in the most polluted regions, while globally adding more than 2 years onto lives on average.
According to an analysis of 56% of the world's population, the cost of climate-driven changes in global mortality risk alone are as large as the Obama administration's estimates of the economy-wide toll of climate change. Even after accounting for adaptation, an additional 1.5 million people will die per year from climate change by 2100 if emission trends continue.
This paper develops the first globally comprehensive and empirically grounded estimates
of mortality risk due to future temperature increases caused by climate change.
Voluntary Commitments
The organization has no registered commitments.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
