The Swiss Federal Office for Civil Protection (FOCP) supports the cantons and municipalities as well as the partner organisations in their civil protection activities. With the creation of the FOCP in 2003, all areas of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS), which specialise in civil protection issues were grouped together. The FOCP coordinates disaster management activities among the partner organisations.

The FOCP initiated a research project together with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH Zurich regarding disaster management in different cities of the world.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
